2020 Golden Rat Year Predictions: More weddings, babies and property deals

The Golden Rat year begins on Feb 4,2020 (at 5.04pm) and will end on Feb 3,2021 (at 11pm). Although this is a Metal Rat year, many people prefer to call it a Golden Rat year as the year marks the full 60-year cycle of this animal zodiac and therefore, deemed more auspicious, said local feng shui master Kenny Hoo.
Moreover,"this Rat year is very auspicious as it is a Double-Spring Year. As such more couples will be getting married and more babies will be conceived and delivered. There will also be more people moving into new houses, buying new properties and starting new companies," he said.
Hoo added that the Rat, Ox, Snake and Rooster will have greater chances of conceiving a baby. However, those planning for an addition to their family should avoid births in the challenging months of June and December.
Some good or auspicious months for births include April and August, as well as January 2021. For C-section delivery, would-be parents are encouraged to seek advice from a feng shui master to select an auspicious date and time for delivery, so that the baby can have a more balanced BaZi combo to help boost his or her life journey.
Hoo said: "2020 is the year of interaction, and the buzzword of the year is hu (in Mandarin) which means mutual interaction. Companies and individuals are trying to improve their products, services and quality of life and aiming for greater cooperation with each other to create more innovative opportunities."
Wood- and Fire-related industries will have more business opportunities. This will see the increase in prices of raw products and commodities such as furniture, fruits and vegetables, medicines, rubber and palm oil, as well as in healthcare and education.
Fire-related businesses such as electronics, telecommunications, high-tech products and energy will also be connected with new platforms and open up new business opportunities to further stimulate the market.
Metal is the grand wealth element, and Hoo predicted a surge in gold prices to a record high this year.
The international and domestic markets can expect more positivity in April, May, August and December. The market will be more volatile in March, June, July, September and October, as well as January next year. Wiser investing and operational management can help turn risks into opportunities.
Hoo spoke on good and bad energies and also colours to enhance luck.
According to him, the most auspicious qi (or energy) falls in the Southeast, West, Northwest and Northeast sectors. Stay and be active in these sectors (for bedroom or main doors) as there will be enhancements in career, wealth and health.

The Southwest and West sectors of the home or office will also have greater positive qi. Try to paint the feature wall green, with a bit of blue.
The Southwest is the location of the Scholastic star, Hoo said.
"Stay often in the Southwest sector for activities, for learning or business discussions, to trigger creativity and innovative ideas. Paint the feature wall green and blue to strengthen and accumulate scholastic qi for the family members and employees, to enhance learning ability and creativity and attract help from the noble people," he said.
The West sector also attracts wealth, luck and support from the noble people.
The inauspicious 5-Yellow and 3-Green stars fall in the East and North sectors respectively. Avoid renovation or ground-breaking in these sectors. Avoid painting the East sector with red, yellow or brown, or over-decorating in these colours, to avoid the accumulation of bad luck. Paint the East sector blue and green. Also use green and red in the North sector to enhance luck.
The 2-Black inauspicious star falls in the South sector. Avoid doing renovation or ground-breaking in this sector, especially if there are family members born in the years of the Rat, Horse, Boar, Snake and Rabbit. This bad star can trigger loss of wealth, diseases, mood changes and bodily hurt especially to young girls in the family.
White or gold and blue colours in the South sector can improve the health of family members. Avoid decorating or painting this sector with red, yellow, brown and green.
In the South sector of the house or company, decorate or paint the wall in blue with white or gold colours to enhance the auspicious qi to bring good health for the family and employees.
This year, the lucky colour is green, which is associated with the Wood element. The frequent use of green in personal clothing, jewellery and accessories can continue to attract good luck and wealth, and gain help and support from the noble people.
